Sometimes Life Takes Over

Well, finally getting around to updating this old blog again… I just deleted an entry that read:

Donating our old 30 foot Fleetwood Wilderness 5th Wheel trailer”

As that has already happened. We had started that process when Heidi’s Mom, Katharina, fell after an early morning walk out in front of her home June 3rd, 2019. Fortunately, the lady she had been walking with, (her neighbor), heard her – rushed back over and called 911. She then called our house, and in turn I called Heidi’s work. She had been taken to Kaiser’s Zion hospital in Mission Valley, (San Diego), so we found her in the ER with quite a head wound on the back of her head that wound up having to be cauterized in order to avoid surgically closing it.

Naturally, there could be a very long story to tell, suffice to say “Ma” as we called her was diagnosed with advanced renal cancer on the 26th of June. She refused any form of invasive treatment and all forms of surgery – and agreed to be referred to Hospice. We literally dropped everything else and focused on doing our best for Ma. Heidi took a leave of absence from her work with the Child Nutrition Center in El Cajon.

Ma came home with us not quite a week later, (actually transported by ambulance), and was cared for as well as we possibly could, with the aid of the Hospice nurses who were *excellent*. She passed on 30 August, 2019, and is now interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery out at Point Loma, here in San Diego. Ma was 94 years of age, and a perfect example of a life well lived. We miss her dearly.

That old 5th wheel I mentioned was auctioned off and the proceeds donated to Father Joe’s Villages, (one of Ma’s favorites), here in San Diego.

Much has happened and we have had some very, very good experiences this year – but I needed to explain my “absence” from this old blog.

In Spanish they say “La Vida es Buena” or “Life is good”, we value our own time together even more today. Life really is good.
