Its called “Chili”… + other

Back in 2009, a friend talked me into starting a blog about my chili, asking me to please preserve the recipe for Papa’s Basic Chili.  Over the past 9 years or so, the blog has gone through several iterations, outdoor cooking, (a passion), cast iron cooking, grilling, Amateur Radio – a couple of those changes/updates were merely responding to attempted hacking from outside.  Finally, in early March, 2018 – the php based site was hacked, and I found my compromised site had hidden scripts injected into it – so I simply blew it away.  As time passes I am slowly reconstructing the parts of the old blog that I care to keep.

Below is the post that kicked off the oldest blog I initiated in 2009:

Friends can sure get a lot of work out of you with their “Suggestions”. 😀 Such a friend has mentioned to me several times that I should create a blog, (most recently he recommended using WordPress), to make my observations on Chili, and a little about life, more “public”.

The following is actually from something I posted on Septemeber 5th, 2007:

If you bring up any topic involving sex, politics, or religion – you are bound to get differences of opinion. If you want to have a real knock-down-drag-out FIGHT, just make the topic “Chili”.

From the “purists” in South Texas to those folks up in Cincinnati that make a thin chili-flavored “soup” and pour it over spaghetti – there are as many variants that share the name “CHILI” as there are towns in the USA.

This is an attempt to create a little blog to archive/share some of my personal thoughts on this most important concoction. Have posted a quite a few elsewhere over the past several years, so I have a pretty fair resource.  I will draw heavily upon all of those previous posts initially, then continue from there.

November, 2019 – the above page has been recreated from my original attempts to create/maintain a blog years ago, (has it really been over 10 years already?).  Over those years, it has expanded into cooking other recipes than chili, cast iron cooking, solar cooking, camping, Ham Radio, Linux, Arduino, Raspberry Pi’s – just about anything my aging level of interest happens to focus in on – but know this…  First and foremost is family.  An easy phrase to say, but a great way to live.  That, following your own path, and being true to yourself is always going to be worth pondering.
